Can the pandemic spur action on climate change? | Inside Story | Al Jazeera English

My first studio discussion programme was a special for Al Jazeera’s Inside Story strand, to mark the fifth anniversary of the Paris Climate Agreement on 12th December 2020.

In 2015, world leaders made a commitment to cut carbon emissions and stop global temperature rises. The last five years have, however, been the warmest on record. Wildfires, heatwaves, floods and melting ice caps all point to our planet in crisis.

And yet, the coronavirus pandemic is providing hope of a green, climate-led recovery. I discuss how we can build back better with: Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme; Mindy Lubber, President of non-profit sustainability advocacy organization Ceres; and zoonotic disease specialist Dr Fabian Leendertz.
