WOMEN IN BLACK – YEMEN

BBC Documentaries and BBC Current Affairs for BBC2

30 mins x 1 of 5

Broadcast 2008

A series exploring an overlooked side of Islamic culture - Muslim women’s relationship with fashion and fun. The presenter, Amani Zain, wants to prove to the world that Muslim women are not shapeless black blobs but stylish, opinionated and up for a party. In this, the first film of the series, Amani returns to Yemen to see her family and to have a qat party. An intimate insight into a women’s world that is rarely seen.
