The Decline of Nature | Planet SOS | Al Jazeera English

Nature is in decline.

In May 2019, the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) published the most comprehensive study of life on Earth. It found that one million species face extinction – that’s more than 12 per cent of known life on earth.
We are on track to destroy the natural infrastructure on which our world depends. Planet SOS reports on this alarming trend from some of the world’s most threatened biodiversity hotspots, and also looks at some of the solutions, including IVF for the only two remaining ageing northern white rhinos left on the planet.

My guest on this episode is indigenous leader Kurikindi, from the Nina Amarun community in the Ecuadorian Amazon, who I interview about the destruction of his homeland and the struggle to stop it.
